Rich Hall

Hi everyone,

The ugly mug to the left is me Richard (Rich) Hall, husband, father of 3 girls, mechanical engineer and Southerner by way of Athens, AL.  I am currently employed by WestWind Technologies Inc. as a mechanical engineer working in the military/aerospace industry in Huntsville, AL.  I am a Certified SolidWorks Professional (CSWP) and the V.P. of the North Alabama SolidWorks User Group (NASWUG).  My wife is a second grade teacher in Limestone County.  Go visit Amy Hall to see what she is up to.  My 3 girls are the most important things in my life and there will be more about them elsewhere on my site.  The 2 oldest are adopted from China and the least is (well let’s just say the Dr.’s were wrong about us having biological children).  If you have adopted from China or are contemplating adoption in China or Asia, shoot me an email and we can talk.  My family and I are members of Clements Baptist Church and we enjoy it immensely.  We are teaching 3rd grade co-ed Sunday school and boy do those kids keep you on your toes.  Hardly anything gets by them from week to week.

History

As I mentioned earlier, I am a Southerner living in Athens, AL and a descendant of share croppers from Tennessee and North Alabama.  I would love to say “southern born and southern bred” but there is this little hitch in that I was born in California.  Well, not my fault you see, my dad happened to be serving in the USAF at the time and was stationed at George AFB, Victorville, CA.  I was born in the base hospital and came home to a small apartment just a couple of blocks from the Roy Rogers Museum.  Soon after, I was back “home” in the Athens area.  My family bought a farm in Leggtown just northwest of Athens and this is where I spent my formative years hunting, fishing, playing ball (all kinds), raising animals, cutting wood, working on old cars and so on.  I went to West Limestone High School and graduated in 1986 in a class of 72 people.  I went to college, got my first job, met my wife, got married, bought my first house, my first new car……….all in Athens and the surrounding area.  We have been lucky enough to be able to stay at home and prosper in the North Alabama area.  This is a great place!

Pursuits, Interrests, Hobbies

As a mechanical engineer, I have been lucky enough to use several softwares in my career.  The most prominent is SolidWorks.  I have been using SolidWorks over 10 years and actually started out using SW 95.  Wow! Has 3-D software come a long way in 10 years and what a change in SolidWorks.  Well, since this has been my main design package for so long I am involved in the user community which includes being the Vice President of the NASWUG65 ElCamino group in Huntsville, AL and getting my CSWP certification.  I have presented in the user group and most recently at the SWUGN summit in Nashville.

As far as other things I’m involved in, I still work on old cars and currently have a nice 65 ElCamino.  I’m the 3rd owner of the 300 hp 327, 4-speed, air, power steering, power brake, bucket seat, tilt, in-dash tach, posi rear car.  It’s been fun to work on, fun to drive but it’s now for sale.  3 girls not interrested in dad’s old noisy car that only one can ride in at a time.

I still hunt when I can and try to enjoy the outdoors as much as possible but with 3 girls running to basketball, and dance and karate and, and, and,  well you get the picture.  Hopefully we will get to go camping some this summer.

One of my oldest hobbies is model cars.  I have been building and collecting them as long as I can remember.  As you can probably guess, I really like old Chevy muscle cars and I have quite a few unbilts in my collection.  Like everything else, I hope to get to some building in some day.  In the mean time, they are stored quite nicely just waiting.
